The Return of Music Monday

It has been way too long since my last Music Monday post.  In fact, you’d have to go all the way back to August 2010 to find the last time I posted a music video.  Hopefully, there won’t be as much time between music postings this year!

To start us off, here is a song that up until a few days ago I had never heard by an artist that up until a few days ago I had never heard of.  The song is King of Glory by Josh Bates.   I was rather surprised to find out that Josh Bates released his first album over 5 years ago.  But then again, I don’t listen to the radio that much so I guess it’s not too surprising that I hadn’t heard of him.  His songs have a rocky/edgy feel, similar to Casting Crowns, but the lyrics are full of praise to God.  I’ll be showcasing a few of his songs over the next few weeks.  Here are the lyrics to King of Glory (pardon the odd text at the beginning of the video – this was the only video I could find of this song):

I stare at the cross cause without it I’m lost
And I believe
I’m healed by Your blood, saved by your love
And You shelter me
It’s amazing the power You hold
I give you my heart and my soul

King of glory, You are holy
Take my hands, take my feet
Take my voice, as I sing
Lord of heaven, Hallelujah
Precious Jesus, Hallelujah

Imagine a day when our faith is replaced
With a glorious sight
Of angels in chorus as You stand before us
In perfect light
We will join in the anthem of praise
With every breath we will say

You lived and You died
To bring us new life
Sweet salvation
Clothed in majesty
God of everything

Music Monday – I Have a Shelter

As I was listening to this song, I was reminded of the sermon Pastor Tim preached two Sundays ago on the joy that is found only Christ.  No matter what storms or trials may come our way, our eternal joy is found in Christ and him alone.

“I have a shelter in the storm
When all my sins accuse me
Though justice charges me with guilt
Your grace will not refuse me”

Music Monday – Holy is the Lord

Here is another great song by Andrew Peterson, “Holy is the Lord.”

Music Monday – Too Late to Apologize: A Declaration

In honor of Independence Day, here is a great video parody that is, in my opinion, much better than the original.  Those founding fathers sure knew how to rock! :)

Cast of Characters (in order of appearance, more or less):
King George
Thomas Jefferson
John Hancock
John Adams
Samuel Adams
Benjamin Franklin

Music Monday – Hosanna

Here is Selah’s arrangement of “Hosanna”.  Enjoy!

Music Monday – What a Savior

Here is a new song from Laura Story called What a Savior.  Hoping to see a new album from her soon.  Her music is consistently praising and worshiping of God.  “Hallelujah, what a savior!”

Music Monday – Here With Us

Even though this is a song sung about the first advent of Jesus, it is always good to be reminded of why it was the Son of God came to be here with us – “so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory!” (Eph.1:12)  Here is Joy Williams’ “Here With Us.”

Music Monday – You Alone Can Rescue

Here is Matt Redman’s song, “You Alone Can Rescue.”

Music Monday – Oh The Deep, Deep Love

In the past several years, it seems that there has been a resurgence of interest in some of the older hymns, hymns that have beautiful lyrics that bring our focus to the various aspects of God’s character.  While some artists record the hymns as originally written (Fernando Ortega’s arrangements are very beautiful), others like Sovereign Grace Music take the words and apply new music to them and even some new lyrics.  One such hymn is Oh The Deep, Deep Love of Jesus.  Here is Sovereign Grace’s version of this hymn, from their album Come Weary Saints.

Music Monday – Um, what?

And now for something completely different.

I don’t think I’ve ever featured a commercial on Music Monday before, but this “music video” by Toyota is just too good/funny to pass up.   This one’s for all my peeps, yo.
